Stay safe this Halloween

Halloween can be a fun time for children and families, and it can be enchanting to see children all dressed up. But we understand it can also be an unsettling and uncomfortable time for some people, especially if you live alone. Here are some tips to help you to feel more confident and secure.

  • Remember, you do not have to open the door to anyone. It’s your home and your choice.
  • If you do decide you want to open the door to trick or treaters, always put the door chain on and look out of the window or spy hole to see who's there before opening.
  • Take particular care if there's more than one person on your doorstep.
  • If you want to give treats but don’t want to open the door, you could leave some wrapped sweets in front of your house for people to take. But don’t feel obliged to do this.
  • If you're really worried, invite a friend or relative around and spend the evening together.
  • If you live alone, you may feel more confident with a LifeLine alarm, so you have the peace of mind of knowing there is always someone to call on if you feel afraid.
